my wife is going to teaching as a visiting professor at the University of Grenoble–an old book I have states that French taxes include
taxes on USA income if a person earns income in France and stays in France more than 6 months– I know taxes are complicated — so you may not know the answer to this
so if can refer me to a tax expert that would be excellent

WOW! LC have come through again! Even after we are all settled etc – we have no heating and they have been a great conduit between the landlady and us! Would again thoroughly recommend them!

Hi James,

Yes, it’s for university researchers only – I should have made that clearer.

But I thought it was definitely worth mentioning as they do a marvellous job and could do with some more publicity. I only found out about them a week before arriving in Grenoble and it would have been so useful to have contacted them earlier! The communications links between different parts of the universities here seem to be somewhat tenuous:-)

I would imagine that the university services only apply to those coming to do research in one of the institutes affiliated to the Uni itself, no? Or is it a public service?

Foreign researchers coming to grenoble can get help directly from the university, for free. There’s a really friendly office there – contact details on this webpage:

They don’t meet you off the train, but they do speak excellent English and really help you find your feet. They were invaluable in helping me find an appartment (furnished, and dealing directly with the landlord so no agency fees). They also arrange occasional events to help welcome foreign researchers.
